Following last weeks’s tutorial on how to get the maximum out of your stock class blasters, I am back with a tune-up tutorial for flywheel blasters. Given the fact that your typical semi-auto flywheel blaster has a myriad of wiring and resistors and circuit panels going through it, it seems pretty daunting in trying to understand it. But once you know how the current goes through the blaster, it becomes pretty simple to follow.

Given above is a simplified diagram of how a semi-auto flywheel blaster works. This covers the Stryfe, Demolisher, Rayven, Barricade, Rapid Red, Nerf Cam and the Modulus. The acceleration trigger is simply a pressure switch that completes the circuit, running two motors in parallel. The dart is pushed in by a mechanical pusher rod and the inversely moving flywheels propel the dart out. So far, so good. Let’s take a look at the actual thing.

Familiarize yourself with the internals. These will remain the same with all the semi-auto flywheel blasters. Understand how the trigger assembly works. Note the resistors running through the circuit especially the thermistor panel above the pusher rod. Keep these in mind, as they will be altered in the next segment.

Once you’re aware of how things work inside the blaster, you need to know what can you change in your blaster without breaking stock-class rules. Most of the time, its forbidden to use aftermarket batteries having a high voltage output, like Trustfires. So what you can do is get the most out of your stock alkaline batteries.

See the circuit board on the top right? It contains a thermistor that cuts off your circuit when it gets overheated. You have a choice of either entirely removing the board and soldering the wires, or simply twisting the yellow thermistor until the metal contacts are wound together. Also, remove the resistors in the flywheel cage shown below and replace them with normal wire.

To do this, first remove all four resistors. Then solder two pieces of wire that have an exposed section in the center in parallel. Use that exposed section to connect the wires going to the batteries.

Make sure you check the flywheel orientation and functioning before you reassemble your blaster. Following the circuit diagram is the only thing you need to see if you get stuck. Reassemble your blaster and test fire it a few times. Apart from being a great stock class performer, your blaster can now accept aftermarket batteries without overheating and stopping mid-game. Make sure you use good quality alkaline batteries like Duracell or Energizer, instead of the cheap Zinc-Carbon ones.

The trigger assembly might need lubrication to reduce friction and jams. Just lubricate the moving parts and the main points of contact and you’re good to go!

That completes my tutorial on Flywheel blaster tuning. Next week, its about taking care of your darts. Till then, have a blast!

Nerf Thunderblast leaked on Baidu

China is upto it again.Leaking new blasters. Not that we appreciate it,though. The latest blaster leaked is the Nerf Thunderblast, which is basically a Demolisher missile launcher with a stock. Here it is!

Credits to Rob from SBNC.Check out his blog here-southernbrisbanenerfclub.blogspot.com.au

When I first saw it,I seriously thought that someone did the usual missile launcher removal mod, integrated a modified Demolisher stock, and added a raider pump handle to make things more ergonomic. But turns out,it is an actual Nerf blaster!

The absence of a trigger really disappoints me,because it means it fires just like the Demolisher’s counterpart, with a HAMP style plunger system, and that means accuracy and range will be garbage. Also, the colours seem really conflicting.Still,it is a nifty design, and Nerf seems to be taking some lessons from the modders.I don’t see any practical use,as it needs a completely different kind of ammo, but i’m pretty sure modders will be adding air tanks and triggers to it,perhaps even rebarreling it to fire darts.Let’s see if we get any official info on it.

2014 Nerf line finally reaches India.

Good news for nerf fans in India, the Nerf 2014 line has finally landed on Indian shores. Hurray to that -_-
About a month ago,I found the 2014 product listings on the Funskool website, and about 2 weeks ago,Flipkart,India’s biggest online retailer, began listing them with a ‘coming soon’.Two days ago, they put in most of the products in stock, and boy o boy,you are in for a big disappointment.
Brutally overpriced sums it up pretty good.Almost all the new blasters have a price increment of about 40%.
Following is a price comparison for the main blasters, the first column hs amazon prices converted to INR,and the second column has Flipkart’s prices.

Name——–Amazon.com Prices(INR)——–Flipkart prices
1) Demolisher 2-in-1——–Rs.1890——–Rs.3495

2) ZombieStrike Slingfire——–Rs.1890——–Rs.2000

3) Mega Thunderbow——–Rs.2200——–Rs.2500

4) Mega Centurion——–Rs.2500——–Rs.4000

5) ZombieStrike SideStrike——–Rs.695——–Rs.895

6) Elite Precision Set——–Rs.950——–Rs.1249

Evidently,Flipkart thinks that the bigger the blaster, the higher the price,as seen with Demolisher and Centurion.Nevertheless, other blasters like the Jolt,Triad EX-3.Crossfire and dart refills are being sold at normal prices.
I think it is best to wait and see whether Flipkart decreases its prices, and no,we don’t want gimmicky sales.
P.S.-Flipkart has phased out the old blue Retaliator, and is selling the new XD series Retaliator at the same price.Check out their listings here-http://www.flipkart.com/search?q=nerf&as=off&as-show=off&otracker=start

The London Toy Fair has provided us some answers concerning new blasters, along with a brand new blaster.

All thanks to UK Nerf,an awesome blog who received all this info from Hasbro’s PR team.

Well,here it is,

The bow’s dynamic arms and traditional pull back system can fire five Nerf whistler darts in a row up to an amazing 85 feet. Includes 10 Mega Whistler darts and holds up to five Nerf Mega darts at a time
Again,we all knew about this.
Nerf N-Strike Elite Demolisher 2-in-1 Blaster
·         Ages: 8 years & up

·         SRP: £44.99
·         Available: Autumn 2014

The Demolisher 2-in-1 blaster is impressive in size and power firing up to 85 feet, featuring semi-motorized blasting, a 10 dart banana clip, and all new missiles. Blaster includes two missiles and 10 N-Strike Elite darts.
This view reveals a lot about the blaster. The missile launcher is,unfortunately, integrated into the blaster, and the missiles seem to have a red tinge to them,as if designed for the Mega series.I hope Nerf releases a new missile launcher for the Mega series. Also, the price is pretty steep, almost equal to the Centurion.
Nerf Rebelle Agent Bow

·         Available: Autumn 2014
The Nerf Rebelle Agent bow is perfect for high-profile missions that require accuracy and skill. Now this was something I wasn’t expecting.A Bow? With super-awesome real bowstring action? Along with a red dot sight? With super-cool Foam-Dart Arrows? How cool is that?
All thanks to UK Nerf for this info and the photos.More info to come from London!

It seems that the new blasters coming this year will be coming in the orange variant only,as nerf has increased the performance of the elite blasters from 75ft to a massive 100ft. MyLastDart, an awesome blog based in the UK, has come to know that many new blasters and accessories will be coming this year.Let’s do a recap of all the upcoming releases-

The Zombiestrike Slingfire- An absolute beast of a blaster, officially announced by Hasbro, featuring a lever action priming mechanism, and improvised aesthetics. Not much is known about this blaster, but all the nerfers hope it has a slam fire function.

The Mega Thunderbow-This one didn’t get all the wows and oohs, but still,it has a very innovative design, along with a large capacity. Also some people are thinking that the Mega darts may not be darts, but Mega Arrows, because the official description states so.

The N-Strike Elite Demolisher 2-in-1 -This is the blaster that sends chills down the spine.Every single feature of this blaster is dripping with raw power and style.Curved Mag,awesome.Semi-Auto,awesome.Mega Missile Launcher, awesome.Solid Stock,awesome.100ft range, awesome. With the same price as that of the Rapidstrike, this is one blaster thats gonna put others out of business

According to MyLastDart, 6 new laser sights will be released this year,3 in N-strike Elite, and one each in Dart tag,Zombiestrike and Vortex. The Elite blasters will come in the orange paintjob,to indicate revamped internals to increase the range to 100ft.The new banana clips will be sold with new blaster as well as separately. The blasters will be adjusted and a new intelligent spring spacer system will be installed in the clips to prevent darts from jamming inside the clips. The flywheel system will undergo a power upgrade to increase the velocity and the range of the darts.Bonus packs containing more clips and darts will also be released,

Last but not the least, rumors are such that there is a mystery sniper blaster coming this year.Called the Elite Ranger One,it uses a new cartridge system. Not much is known about this blaster, but this might be the big release of 2014.

Propweaponscoop.com has got some news concerning a new n-strike blaster that has a built in foam grenade launcher. This prototype blaster has some very sweet features.more info after the photos.

ImageImage courtesy-prop weapons coop

Now this looks serious.A curved mag(supposedly containing 10 rounds), a flywheel system(semi auto),a new stock aaand the most awesome feature, the grenade launcher(budumtss..). Going back to the blaster, this one will definitely get a lot of aesthetic makeovers from modders, because it really looks like a mass effect rifle, and the curved mag,it drives me crazy.I am still a little skeptical about the stock, since it looks quite…’skeletal’. The main blaster looks a lot like a stryfe that got a barrel integration. The grenade launcher seems to be air powered, since a plunger cannot be accommodated in the little space. The launcher may or may not be removable. The blaster also has a barrel attachment point.

The official product description is as follows-

“Take NERF shots to the next level with the 2-IN-1 blaster that dominates both MEGA and ELITE missions! The DEMOLISHER 2-IN-1 blaster is impressive in size and power firing up to 100 feet, featuring semi-motorized blasting, a 10 dart banana clip, and all new missiles. Connect NERF scopes and lights to the blaster’s top Tactical Rail System and set sights on some of coolest NERF shots performed. Blaster includes two missiles and 10 N-STRIKE ELITE darts. Four AA batteries required, not included. Available at most major retailers nationwide and HasbroToyshop.com.”

This photo shows how big the blaster really is,as well as shows the size of the grenade launcher.

Retail price will be 39.99 USD. More information and details to come during the London Toy Fair this January.
